FASHION DESIGN
Fashion design is an update on the fig leaves of Adam and Eve. The retail market worldwide calls out for fresh and exciting apparel design, and Chavón's program was cited by the internationally renowned V magazine as one of the 13 "powerhouse" schools for contemporary fashion designers. From initial concept through the processes of draping and construction and onto the runway, the garment is treated as a sculptural, architectural work, conceived and produced within the context of the history of fashion design. Parsons The New School for Design in New York City provides an invaluable connection with teachers who are professional designers. The Chavón Fashion Design graduate carries a deep awareness of design concept as well as a superior ability to produce a fashion statement.
COURSES
Draping and Construction
The cut and fall of fabrics, the essence of fashion. Using muslin, students learn the nature of textile and how it moves in relation to the figure, and various pinning and cutting techniques.

Fashion Design
The concepts, processes, and industry-required technical skills in the production of apparel.
4 credits.
Pattern Making
An introduction to the technique of making paper patterns, transferring them to muslin, and draping the pieces of fabric to form a garment.
4 credits.
History of Fashion
The all-important voyage through the evolution of fashion with reference to human experience. Students learn how world history and fashion history are inextricably related.
2 credits.
Textile Design
An analysis of the properties of cloth?the raw material of fashion?and their adaptation to apparel. Students explore the interpretation of design in fabric, the history and classification of textiles, and techniques such as weaving, surface decoration, and traditional and unconventional applications to textiles.

Fashion Illustration
Drawing and representation of the fashion figure in gouache, wash, pen and ink, charcoal, and pencil. Fashion concepts and reportage are all accompanied by fashion illustration.
